EQUIPMENT & TACKLE

Catching big fish is no easy feat and good equipment is a must especially when your equipment will be put to the test every day of your trip. Your guide will operate a Pro Guide Alumarine Boat powered by a Yamaha 40 HP, four stroke motor and in addition, you will also be provided a life jacket, net, cradle and oars. If you do not have a quality rod and reel, they are available for use at no extra cost however, tackle is not available..

NORTHERN PIKE

A quality 6'6" or 7' medium heavy action rod combined with your favorite bait casting reel that will hold 150 yards of 17 pound test line will prove a solid winner. Oh, a rod with a long butt handle is a great asset when pumping a 40" Pike.
30 to 60 pound twelve inch steel leaders. We like the heavier ones! Do keep in mind the Pike is truly a fresh water Barracuda and its razor sharp teeth will prevail when given the opportunity.

Convert to a plastic tray type tackle bag. They are lighter and will allow you more flexibility in managing your lures.
Top lures to consider are: Manns Super Stretch, Stretch and the standard minus one. Storrm and Yozuri shallow diving plugs, Rapala Super Shad Rap and #13 jointed. The key to crank baits when fishing Misaw Lake is shallow diving! Mepps and Blue Fox #5 & #6 bucktail and plain hook spinners. Johnson's Silver Minnow especially with a white, pink or black tail. One ounce spoons such as Daredevil or Lucky Strike. Rapala #8 minnow spoon. Plastics work very well, 7" to 9" Slugo's, Lizards and minnows. The Banjo Minnows or similar imitations. I cannot say enough about soft plastics except they work and often will make your trip. Call me, buy a tape and visit your local Bass Pro Shop for great plastic selections and ideas. For top water, the more erratic the lure, the better the bait for Pike. Again, good leaders are necessary and better is best!

Lure colors are very important and we suggest fire tiger, blue, blue and white, blue and silver, shad, red and white, fluorescent green, chartreuse, orange, gold and yellow, silver, white and rainbow trout.
When fishing from mid July on, please add weedless lures to your tackle box.

Please, learn the Polomar Knot! It's invaluable..........

LAKE TROUT

A quality 6'6" or 7' medium heavy action rod combined with your favorite bait casting reel that will hold 150 yards of 17 pound test line will work well. Many fishermen use the same equipment for Lake Trout as they do for Pike.
Please! 15 pound test minimum.
Quality three way swivel to create a weight free jig for the fish.
Two and three ounce lead weights.
20' - 30' deep diving crank baits, look at Manns Baits, Rapala, Excalibur or Storm. Size 50 & 60 flat fish and big spoons up to 8", such as Daredevil, Williams and Kotco.
Lure colors that work well are white, bright greens, blues, yellows and oranges, silver, gold and combinations of silver/gold and silver/blue.

ARCTIC GRAYLING

A 5'6" ultra light rod equipped with a matching spinning reel and spooled with 6' test line will work well.
BB size split shot.
We suggest you tie your spinner or spoon on to avoid snags in the fast water.
#1 and #2 spinners such as Mepps or Roster Tails and spoons up to 1/8 ounce.
Another alternative is to utilize a float to twitch a dry fly on the surface. Size 10 to 12 elk hair caddis fly's work great.
Blue, green, white, silver and brown have been popular colors
